Industrial Collaboration

The Departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering are pleased to offer a broad-based Industrial Affiliates Programs focused on improving industrial engagements with our world renowned faculty and students.

Complementary research and teaching strengths of the two departments ensure that, collectively, the training of our students covers the full range of engineering applications of biology, chemistry, materials and physics.  Our faculty is at the forefront of groundbreaking research and innovation using a multidisciplinary approach that draws upon Stanford’s world-leading expertise.  Our faculty and students tackle the challenges of the 21st century with an approach to problem solving that focuses on the creation and integration of knowledge across traditional disciplines

Our 600+ students come from all over the US and more than 40 countries.  Our students have become proficient at synthesis of biological and synthetic soft materials as well as of hard materials, typically in the nano-domain.  They use advanced mathematical techniques and simulations to explore atomic and molecular-level processing of hard and soft materials and are familiar with state-of-the-art characterization tools.

We welcome collaboration with industry to focus on solving tomorrow's challenges

Our Industrial Collaboration program is called Materials X and consists of different focus areas with two initial programs:
