Congratulations to the Elise Loppinet: Winner of the 2021-2022 Department of Chemical Engineering Mason Fellowship

Awarded to a graduate student who provided leadership to the student community and who went above and beyond to serve the department outside of their normal studies and research.

Congratulations to Elise Loppinet for winning the 2021-2022 Department of Chemical Engineering Mason Fellowship!


This prestigious award has been made possible by the Mason Lectureship fund. It is a 3-quarter fellowship, funding the student’s quarterly stipend at the level of a SGF as well as tuition, awarded to a graduate student who provided leadership to the student community and who went above and beyond to serve the department outside of their normal studies and research. We want to recognize outstanding dedication and efforts for contributing to the department and serving the graduate student community as a whole. The Mason Fellowship will be presented at the Mason Lecture banquet by the donor. The Mason Fellowship will be awarded to one student.

Elise Loppinet

Elise has served as the President of the Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Action Committee during the academic year 2020-2021, taking on this role during the pandemic. Previously, she also served as the Social Chair for the department, and Chair of the Recruitment Committee. 


Here are some excerpts from the nominations received:

“Elise oversaw the formation of an outreach committee on GSAC, worked with the DEI committee to ensure that GSAC and DEI were working together toward similar goals.”

“Elise served as the President of the Graduate Student Action Committee amidst the challenges of the pandemic. She did an outstanding job in particular coordinating the first fully virtual Stanford Visit Weekend for incoming prospective students.”

“Through discussions led by Elise, we restructured the way in which student recognitions and fellowships are awarded in the Department, making the process more transparent and equitable. She also facilitated the collection and curation of important feedback from the student body regarding their perceptions of the GSAC and the DEI committee.”
